Here We Go Again...
This is the postcard that Tom designed for our show in February. People always ask (ok, 3 people have asked) "What is the Igloo Tornado?" I think that this image answers that question loud and clear. Or maybe it doesn't, all I know is that it kicks ass! Centaurs and rainbows, who could ask for more? Our gay dungeons and dragons fans will be very pleased.

Happy New Year!
I hope that everyone has a Happy New Year. I am looking forward to an exciting 2008. The Igloo Tornado show will be in February and I will be releasing my second print to coincide with the show! More info to come. Now get back to what you were supposed to be doing.

Shane Brown
My friend, Shane, has just unveiled his new web site shanebrownok full of the incredible photos he has taken over the past few years. I was never that fond of photography when I was in art school, but that's probably because I never knew any photographers that were anywhere near as good as Shane is. Check out his site for an up close and personal look at my home state (Oklahoma) and life on the great Midwestern plains.

Murakami
If you live in the Los Angeles area, you must check out the show of the year. Truly an over the top visual experience. I was a few dollars short of being able to buy one of these, but watching the never ending line of people who did have the $$ to buy a bag was nothing short of fascinating. No matter how you feel about Murakami designing bags for LV or MOCA having an actual LV store within the museum this was a powerful "piece" that only enhanced my experience of the show.

Self Indulgent Werewolf
The biggest and best show of the season: Tom Neely's first solo show at the BlackMaria Gallery will open on Saturday the 15th, from 7:00-11:00. Tom has created a soundtrack to accompany the show, as well as the most amazing sculpture you will ever lay your eyes on (it can be yours for 10K!). The gallery has been painted almost entirely black and there will be a black metal DJ providing "tunes" for the show. When you come to the show see if you can count exactly how many penises there are on display. This is truly going to be an incredible event, I know how much work Tom has put into this show and it makes my head spin. If you live in L.A. you really should check it out. If you don't live in L.A. the Black Maria gallery website has all of the pieces on it including some really good photos of the sculpture.

ComicCon
Thanks to everyone who stopped by the Igloo Tornado booth at this years ComicCon. The big hit was the Hall & Oates t-shirt (and Tom's new graphic novel, of course). I sold a few things and had a good time taking in the craziness that is ComicCon. I still have my LoserGoes1st x LaceLockLosers t-shirt available (sorry, no small sizes left), as well as some art zines. E-mail me if you are interested in purchasing a t-shirt or zine. There are less than 20 "Tete-a-tete" prints left and they are now available through my gallery, Blackmaria, or by e-mailing me, for $100.00.

New Print is here!
You are gazing at "tete-a-tete" my amazing new Giclee print that arrived yesterday. It is signed and numbered in a limited edition of 50. For a short time I am offering it for $50.00 each, but that price will go up once I hand it over to my gallery at the end of July. It is printed on archival museum quality paper, and the size of the print is 25"x10.75". Feel free to e-mail me with any questions or comments or to place an order: losergoes1st@gmail.com

The Blot
My friend and fellow Igloo Tornado brother, Tom, has just released his first graphic novel, The Blot. I know that I'm probably a little biased, but this thing is INCREDIBLE. I would love this book in general without knowing anything about Tom, but knowing what he went through to get this produced is amazing. You can and should order one right now on his website iwilldestroyyou

How to build an Igloo
This is in the front yard of a small business in Silverlake that is nestled between apartment buildings. The guys that own the place always have cool installations out front. The latest is an igloo built out of material that can be woven together. It looks more like a tepee than an igloo because of the wooden poles used to frame it, but it's still pretty impressive. Perhaps they would be interested in building some smaller ones for the Igloo Tornado show in February?

Love is...?
I'm a creature of habit. I read the LA Times every day. I know that my wife would say that the word read should be in quotations because I actually only look at the front pages of the world and local news sections (the "real" news she says). Anyway, I do read the sports page (Page 2, TJ Simers is a must read), and the Calendar section where the crossword puzzle is (I can only complete Monday through Wednesday before I have to cheat with the internet). I save the Classifieds for last because the word Jumble puzzle is in there along side the most confusing comic of all time: Love is...
Let me start by saying that I LOATHE this comic, it mocks me daily as I work my word Jumble. The characters in it don't ever seem to have any clothes on, and they do some really weird stuff whilst naked. The whole thing is one big trite, overly sentimental piece of garbage. Yet I can't stop myself from looking at it. Perhaps because for the longest time I thought I knew what Love was; or maybe I'm just a glutton for punishment. Who knows.
Let's take this example above, exactly what is going on here? It looks like the "man" is trying to hump the "woman's" armpit. This is Love? I never knew.

This blog is about "contemporary art that examines the role of Dungeons & Dragons, Escapism, and Fantasy in contemporary art and culture". I'm pretty sure fellow Igloo Brother Levon would be very interested.

New Print
This should give you a rough idea of what my new print will look like. The 3 panels are connected, the bird is on the first panel on the left, then the middle panel with the branches, then the face on the right. I'm not sure what the title is going to be, or how limited the edition will be, but i'm guessing i will print at least 12 of them. signed and numbered, of course.

Edison Bar
just wanted to be on top of the game and tell everyone to make sure and check out the Edison bar downtown. It's on 2nd street before you hit Main Street, down an alley behind the Pitfire pizza joint. The place is absolutely incredible. It's a huge old boiler room converted into a fancy bar. Words can't do it justice, just check it out for yourself.
*Note* I wrote the above post before the Edison bar officially opened. Everything I have heard about the bar since it has opened has been terrible. Dress codes, velvet ropes, needing a "reservation" to get into a bar!?, expensive drinks, etc... all add up to a really cool looking bar for people that i do not want to be drinking with. You'll find me a few streets over at the Bar 107 (right next door to the best shoe store in LA, Blends) drinking a 24oz Pabst, or perhaps a can of Schlitz.

Igloo Book
The Igloo Tornado book will consist of 4 separate books (one for each member). Each will be 64 pages long, soft cover, perfect binding, matte paper. The sleeve that will hold them together will have our family portrait on the back and the Quadra-Penquin Icon on the front. They are basically fancy catalogs to showcase how awesome we are. They should be available for distribution by July.
