Welcome to my site!

If this is your first time here, welcome to losergoes1st! You can read all about me, check out my artwork (there's a link to the right), or just take a look around at what I've been up to lately. My wife and I recently became first time parents so my work production has decreased a bit lately, but I'm still in the studio making art. You can contact me directly to purchase work or to inquire about commissions. I also have my last two prints and a few original paintings up on etsy. Thanks for dropping in and I hope that you enjoy the work.

E is for...

E is for Elliot, the second cutest baby born this year. His parents are my dear friends, Matt and Betsy. His aunt is this chick. I was thinking of Elliot when I created the letter E page for the alphabet book (note: this piece is actually not quite finished, but it's close enough). Matt and I share an unhealthy obsession with the Eames Lounge Chair, so it was an obvious item to include in the picture. I guarantee the day I get the Lounge Chair my ass will be glued to it for a week straight! What will happen to our children if they grow up and don't appreciate mid-century modern furniture? I shudder to think of such a thought. Hopefully the little guy will like this piece of art inspired by him (you'll get it for your nursery soon, Elliot, I only have 21 more letters to go!)

S is for...

Detail for the letter S in my alphabet book. Don't ask why I skipped from the letter C to the letter S, this started out as a sketch of some kicks and will probably end up in the alphabet book.

The Letters B and C

Here's a few details from the letters B and C from the alphabet book that I'm trying to get together for my son. Slow going, but I'm doing what I can whenever I can.

Solid Gold Hubcaps Cloth

My friend, Jeff, recently released a super fresh line of t-shirts under the name Solid Gold Hubcaps. The t-shirt designs are dope as hell. They're simple and clean, just like they should be. Check em out for yourself and buy a few so that you can look as cool as I think that I do.

Loverlee album cover

My one and only album cover design. My friend, Justin, asked me to do this for his band, Loverlee. You can check them out on myspace and itunes.

A is for...

Finished the first letter of my alphabet art for my son's alphabet book. At this rate my son will be in college by the time I'm finished with all of the artwork! So in order to speed up the process I've decided that I will need to make them in a different manner (i.e. not on canvas). So I'll be working out the details and getting started on the letter B this week. As usual, I'll keep you updated.

New Print! "Flite#1"

I am proud to announce my latest print release, "Flite #1." I would characterize this print as a "retro" print because it is from an original work that I created almost 15 years ago. I've always really liked the piece and decided recently that I would like to share it with my friends and collectors. This piece marks the first appearance of bird imagery in my work. Those of you who are familiar with my recent work know that bird imagery plays an integral part in most of the pieces. While not necessarily explaining the meaning of the bird imagery this print will give you a better idea of previous influences on my current body of work.

As usual, the print is a Giclee print on museum quality archival paper. It is a standard size, 16" x 20", signed and numbered in an edition of 50.

The quality and detail of the print is amazing and I am very happy with the print. In keeping with my philosophy of making great art affordable and readily available to everyone I am offering the print for $50.00 with a $5.00 shipping fee. Contact me at
losergoes1st[at]gmail[dot]com for ordering info.

Thank you so much for all of your support, I truly appreciate it!

*UPDATE* After 2 printing attempts, I am sorry to report that the final size for the print will NOT be 16" x 20". The print will be a non-standard size of 16" x 21". I apologize for the mix up. If you live in the L.A. area I can hook you up with a great deal on custom framing, just contact me and I'll give you all the info you need.

New Work

Here's a shot of a new piece that's almost finished. It's one of a series of three. More info soon when I finish the other two pieces. Also, I will be releasing a new print in a few weeks! The new print is a *retro* piece; more on what the hell that means when I release it.

Nursery Wall of Art

Mr. A loves art (at least I like to think that he does). So I hung up a few pieces of art that I had stashed in my studio. A few original Michael Sieben drawings, a Evan Hecox print that came in the last issue of Arkitip, a Jeff Soto print, and a few other pieces. Right now the nursery is probably my favorite room in the house!

3 Months Old!

Mr. A. is getting bigger and bigger every day! I have decided that one of my next projects is going to be making him an ABC book. I am going to do all original artwork for the pages and hopefully turn it into a poster as well. I'm planning on starting the project in August and don't have a clue as to when it will be completed (hopefully before he starts to learn his ABC's). I'm also planning on releasing a mini print this November. My last print was really big and I think that had something to do with the fact that no one bought one! So the new print is going to be around 6" x 6" with a little bit of a border. It will be in the same style/concept as the previous 2 prints. I'll keep you posted about the progress. Apologies again for the lack of updates on the blog, I will be back to work soon and the postings will resume. Thanks for checking in.

Don't Touch My Head, Pervert

"Uncle Tom + Aunt Anna" visited last nite and brought several very cool gifts. They are in first place in the trying to spoil the baby race. I'm not sure if you can read it, but the pink onesie says "Don't touch my head, pervert."

Studio Visit Magazine

I have a two page spread of some of my artwork in the latest issue of Studio Visit Magazine. I'm not sure when or where you can buy it, but it sure does look cool.

Nursery Mural is Finished!

It took a while longer than I expected, but I think that the completed mural looks fantastic. There's a lot going on, but I think that it will hopefully spark the little guys imagination when he gets older. Again, big thanks to Tom for helping me with the design. The other night we were kicking around the idea of producing a children's book based off of the mural design, stay tuned to how that goes.

Nursery Mural Update

My friend Tom and I finished drawing most of the mural yesterday. Today I started painting and got about half way finished. I think that it looks really cool, hopefully the baby will too!

Nursery Mural

I've always hated murals. However, now that I'm painting one in my son's nursery that is going to kick ass I guess I can't say that I hate murals anymore. Here's a few preview pictures. Yeah, I know, the photos are sideways. Deal with it, they're artsy.

Sketchbook #1

I was reflecting on the work that I did for the Igloo Show (still up at Black Maria Gallery until March 22nd) and noticed that I had been putting pieces of jewelry hanging from tree branches into several of the paintings. I'm not quite sure why I did that, or what the imagery means, but I decided to do some further exploration of the jewelry theme in my sketchbook for a week. Each day I did a sketch that had to include jewelry somehow. Here's the first one, with more to come each day (hopefully), and a different theme each week.

The Igloo Art Show!

Everything went well at the Igloo Tornado opening last nite. Thanks to everyone who braved the rain and came to our show, drank our beer, and bought our work! The show will be up for another month, so if you weren't able to make it to the opening you still have time to check it out. There are more photos over on the Igloo Tornado web site

New Work

I've got a few new pieces up for sale in the artwork section. I call them subversive wallpaper pieces because they look harmless and decorative from a distance, but when you look at them closely there are some odd things going on. They will be in the Igloo Tornado show in February.
